The Modern Birth Announcement

Aug 19, 2016

Do It YOURSELF. I know sounds scary, right? It’s actually really simple and fun. You don’t have to spend a grand on photography, etc. Every baby website will tell you on their “preparation list” per your babies arrival is to hire a photographer for their newborn photos because they book up quickly and the first month with them flies! I beg to differ…

birth announce

Searching for a location became an expression of our personalities. Wherever you live, whatever city/town your baby is born take some time to find the spot that sets the tone of your lifestyle there. It could be as simple as in front of a white fence with your baby in a woven basket filled with a symbolic blanket or outside your cities famous sports stadium with fan gear. Think outside the box, yet your everyday. After you come up with that ideal spot get your props ready and start snappin’. If you don’t have a professional camera don’t freak. Just use your phone camera or borrow. Photos become perfection within the editing. Whether you buy a free month of photoshop or use the edit tab on your phone. Mess around with three things- brightness, cropping and lighting. Voilà! You have your photo. Now upload it to the stationary website of your choice and enter your newborns information. Easily have your return address printed on your envelopes too. Theres so much you can do on these sites! I always choose Tiny Prints for my stationary. I love all their unique options and easy to maneuver site. I recently teamed up with Tiny Prints for your benefit 😉 I’m always looking for promos on any purchase. makeup 222

I typically don’t wear a lot of makeup and I definitely don’t wear it daily, which I think is key to allow your skin to breathe.  When I do I keep it light. I like the natural glow look for summer, of course (don’t we all). Here are the products I love to obtain that summer girl glow!

Spray Tan bottel Green Bushes

First, I always spray my face with St. Tropez. I stopped tanning my face a couple years ago when I noticed my first sun spot and you’ll notice I love wearing hats in the summer to keep the sun off my face. Side note, pregnant women are prone to develop more sunspots due to when steep rises in estrogen levels stimulates excess melanin production and exposure to sunlight can make it worse.

For the spots and bags under my eyes I can’t control I use this skin tint by Hourglass. I always keep something like this handy for days after sleepless nights. I like the Hourglass brush because it creates an even distribution.

chanel powder

I then apply this Chanel powder. I was never a powder or foundation person and I definitely don’t believe in this powder just because it’s logo but it ROCKS. I feel like my skin looks completely even when I wear this. I’m careful of the shade so it doesn’t become too cakey looking.

Invest in a shimmer! I’ll wear this all year around for a natural cheekbone glow. I apply down the front of my nose as well. As you can tell I’m starting to love the Hourglass line as Nars just discontinued my most recent favorite shimmer stick:( The foam brush you see here is bomb too. Makes it easy to apply when you’re out on the town for reapplication.

I go a very inexpensive route for my mascara. You can find this at any drug store. Be mindful of what shade you want-dark black, black, brown, etc.

Always have a gloss handy to go over your matte stick. I love Nars for gloss and Revlon always has bright summer colors to keep it sexy and fun! What are your go to’s?

bright salt

Now that Sienna is a month old and we’re into the groove with her schedule I’ve had a little more time for myself. One thing that I try to do religiously now is enjoy a hot bath because I still can’t hit the gym for a couple of weeks. We also just remodeled our bathroom adding a “soaking tub” so fancy, huh? A bath is the best way for me to relax and detach. Making my own bath salts is not only easy but I’m able to combine everything I enjoy to create the full experience. Yes, my bath is an experience. I even add flowers into the bubbly water. Bath salts can also make a great gift!

Here’s how to prepare your own blend at home:

Coarse sea salt

Epsom salt

Baking soda

essential oils

food coloring (optional)

  1. In a large bowl, mix to combine 6 parts coarse sea salt, 3 parts epsom salt and 1 part baking soda
  2. Add a few drops of essential oils (my favorites are eucalyptus and jasmine)
  3. Add minimal food coloring for desired shade

NeOn NurSery Dreams

Jun 16, 2016

Having Sienna home and in our lives has been such a blessing. Her expressions and presence have made me and my husband two extremely happy humans to say the least. Before her arrival we had such a blast putting together her nursery. I create and he builds. Great duo, turn trio! Si currently sleeps in the Halo Bassinest Bassinet which I’m obsessed with. It allows me to sleep right next to her little face while she’s an infant. It swivels right onto our bed and it’s convenient for nightly feedings. At an appropriate size and age she’ll move to her super bright nursery (curtains are blackout). Hope you like it as much as I do!

Curtains are handmade and fabric from Mood Fabrics. We bought blackout cream color to offset the whites to create a rich feel.  I’m in love with the Peanut changer (for purchase below).  Easy to wipe and keep clean.

My FAVORITE piece in her room.  These vintage elephants as wall art that we sprayed neon pink.  Bought in a pickers storage unit!

The wood California piece is from the Venice Boardwalk. My husband insisted we find a piece from there because it’s our spot.  We sprayed that neon pink too and framed it ourselves. Black wood rocker is from Land Of Nod.

We sprayed all the drawer nobs on everything ourselves as well.

Hospital Bag MUST Haves

May 30, 2016

C-Section it is!  Super nervous about the surgery, to her arrival and my recovery with this new tiny baby girl.  We are going earlier than expected so here is whats in my hospital bag at only 35 weeks.  I’ve done extended research and asked just about every women I know who’s had a Caesarean what their must haves were.  More suggestions welcomed.

First, and most important is to have your carseat properly installed in your car for baby’s ride home.  I decided to go with the UppaBaby Cruz stroller.  It’s light, very safe and simply colored.  I love the bassinet option for her to take naps in.

I was told the Belly Bandit is a savior.  It holds everything together and for a C relieves some pain while keeping the stomach tight.  I got the organic pink bandit and the black shield for under neither to hold any creams that are applied as well.  The white zip is to hold my  Medela Breast Pump in place while breastfeeding.  The Honest nipple balm.. we’ll see once that happens!

All about having handy products.  Scar cream, Vitamins, wavy hair mist for easy after shower do, Breast pads for leaking, oil for dryness, etc.  Am I missing anything?

Foxy!  I told my husband I bought a sexy nightgown..not really.  All cotton everything.  Target underwear and nursing bras, eye mask, Nap Socks and slippers.

For baby Si!!  (her nickname) I got the boppy pillow cover on Etsy by a shop called KB Cute Designs.  Swaddles are Aden and Anais where I also got my stroller covers and other super soft goodies.

Newborn side snap t-shirts and Mam Pacifiers will hopefully make my life a little easier.  Lastly, a head crown for the princess.

Champagne as thank you for the helpful nurses <3
